Overview
An engineering learning platform with mobile and desktop apps, a dashboard for managing content and students, and courses with protected video. I worked on the backbone of the system: the backend that powers the apps and the dashboard that runs them.
The challenge
- A legacy system on .NET Framework 4.8, with a constantly growing user base.
- Technical debt that slowed new features and caused bugs.
- Paid content that needed protection against leaks.
What I did
- Upgraded to .NET 8: migrated from .NET Framework 4.8 with no disruption students could notice.
- Refactored the codebase: a clean, modular structure (Clean Architecture, SOLID) that cut technical debt and eased maintenance.
- APIs for every client: built and optimized the APIs used by the mobile app, the desktop app and the dashboard.
- Protected paid content: a Bunny Stream integration with signed URLs that block direct access to videos.
- Dashboard & analytics: improved the admin dashboard and made admin operations faster.
- Error monitoring: global exception handling and centralized logging (Serilog).
- Server operations: ran the Linux server with Docker and backups.
